…or do you? The ever expanding world of the interwebs certainly makes us second guess. Small font, capitalization, legal mumbojumbo, and jargon of all sorts constantly blurs our vision of legal rights and responsibilities that a user has on various services online.

Enter Facebook. Over 175 million active users, most of whom return to the site more that three times a day. Just last Wednesday, they updated them Terms of Service, or the guidelines that users must legally abide by while using the Facebook service. What did they change? Well, a lot of things.

Although they claimed to just reorganize it’s document into “things that a user should and should not do”, there’s more to the story. They in fact added a clause in their TOS that describes a users rights to uploaded content, even after account termination. In other words, they get to keep all of your information, EVERYTHING, ever uploaded. What’s worse is that they legally could sell off your “junk data”. Yeah, sketchy as hell. The clause in this section of the document used to state that the Company “may archive” old information — this section has since disappeared.

The clause explaining what happens after termination of an account is as follows (directly from the document):

The following sections will survive any termination of your use of the Facebook Service: Prohibited Conduct, User Content, Your Privacy Practices, Gift Credits, Ownership; Proprietary Rights, Licenses, Submissions, User Disputes; Complaints, Indemnity, General Disclaimers, Limitation on Liability, Termination and Changes to the Facebook Service, Arbitration, Governing Law; Venue and Jurisdiction and Other.

You also agree to a mandatory binding arbitration. If you don’t know what this means, The Consumerist gives a great example in this article.

None of this should seriously concern you, but it’s scary what you’ll find in the fine print if you’re not a fine print type of person.

Hey, I Know My Rights!

A partner of TheCollegeBlogNetwork.com has developed a Twitter mash-up that allows you to share any type of code, and yes, you can use more than 130 characters.

Snipt.org is really similar to TwitPic or TinyURL, where a truncated link may be posted which, if followed, goes to the specific code on the Snipt.org website. For a developer like myself, this is pretty convenient especially if you’re a heavy Twitter user following a slew of developers. Or, you could create your own developers group using another Twitter mash-up like tweetworks. The combination of the both a Twitter-like group service with a bug tracker could help move your project along more quickly and efficiently, but that’s just my opinion :D

Tweet Code With Snipt

So, I’ve been neglecting one of the better Twitter mash-ups, 12seconds.tv. I already apologized to my buddy who works on it, jivebotic, so I don’t feel as bad :D. I promise I’ll post more on 12seconds in the future bro.

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, I’d like to say that I did check out the “rooms” feature that was tested during Valentines day (yesterday) — what a great way to test a new addition! They ran an #anti-valentine room which is an aggregate for themed videos as well as Twitter and Blip.fm posts with “#antivalentine” hash tags in them. Certainly the epitome of a mash-up as far as I’m concerned.

If you use Twitter regularly and want a new twist, I suggest you check out 12seconds.tv.

12seconds.tv!

So I finally completed the site, I’m just waiting for client approval. When the site is actually live, I’ll put another post up here announcing it’s launch.

For now, let me know what you guys think.

I mean, I have to be if I actually ordered this to wear for a girl. Then again she’d have to be equally nerdy.

Get money.

At least that’s what Twitter is still doing, following two rounds of funding (totaling $20 million) and despite the fact that they are lacking a solid business plan of any kind. Oh, and you’re asking just how much money Twitter received and from whom?

Nearly $35 million by a new venture capital firm, Benchmark Capital and Institutional Venture Partners. This comes at a good time, since it seems like Twitter needed that extra push up the hill to get prepared for epic success. “We are now positioned extremely well to support the accelerating growth of our service, further enable the robust ecosystem sprouting up around Twitter, and yes, to begin building revenue-generating products,” blogged Biz Stone, co-founder and internet innovator.

Still, it’s hard to believe that a company that turned down an offer from Facebook last fall still doesn’t have an established business plan to rack in revenue.

Damn, regardless of a business plan or not, people seem to be throwing money at you anyway. Biz, @ me some dough bro, I’ve got a start-up I need funding for. :D

Twitter Snatched More Dough

Is Apple gearing up the rumored release of the $99 iPhone? Sure looks it. Here’s a few images of the back, directly from China. Seems like the back isn’t a glossy finish anymore, it’s a flat matte finish, most likely a rubberized-type of finish. This model shown here has the 16GB iPhone 3G model number, so this model is most likely the 16GB 3G refresh.

I think if this iPhone refresh does Apple well, they could potentially refresh their other product lines. Having said that, I hope we all have a chunk of change to spend on these damned things…stimulus package anyone?

New iPhone Coming Soon?

Today, YouTube (a Google company) announced that it will offer the previously predicted “download” feature to videos that partners are willing to release offline. The YouTube blog post explained details as to how the downloads will be offered. “Partners could choose to offer their video downloads for free or for a small fee paid through Google Checkout”, said Thai Tran, Product Manager for YouTube. The expected format of choice will most likely be mp4, eventually moving into the HD realm since YouTube already offers high quality streaming over the regular, crappy compressed quality we’re all used to. All I have to say is….WATCH OUT iTunes!

Not sure if this is an actual product, but I love the label design and positioning especially the fact that it’s a regular looking bottle. It reminds me of printed masking tape. I’m pretty fond of the type and color treatment in particular.
